Face the fight against cancer with us.
In the Emergency Department (ED) we provide care to people with all kinds of medical and mental health problems. We consider ourselves the luckiest people in the world to do what we do. Our home is the ED, our family is our colleagues, and our friends are the hundreds of patients who come to see us each and every day.
Our work is always rewarding, often challenging, and occasionally heartbreaking. Among the most difficult moments are when we have to tell a patient that their symptoms are due to a newly diagnosed cancer. We know that their lives and those of their loved ones are changed forever at that moment. We also see cancer patients during the course of their treatment and recovery, when they provide us with living examples of courage and resilience.
When problems come up, we are there to share it with our cancer patients. We have a special place in our hearts for patients and their families who are going through this struggle. We do everything we can to make their ED visit as quick and as beneficial as possible. If there are two beds and only one pillow, many of us will go out of our way to make sure that it goes to our cancer patients.
EHS shares our commitment to providing care to cancer patients, with a special patient program that allows paramedics, working with online physicians, to come to patients houses and provide unique assessments and allow our cancer patients to receive symptom management without having to be transported to the ED.
At the end of their battles with cancer, our cancer patients leave the ED. When things have gone well they put their cancer behind them and resume their lives, loves, and ambitions. When their lives are cut short, we provide them with symptom relief and end-of-life care.
We would give anything to find cures for any and all of the cancers out there. We hope that you would as well. We are even willing to get on our bikes on October 1st, 2022, to wobble, roll, and race from Mahone Bay to Halifax. We hope that you will sponsor us, and that our efforts along with those of hundreds of other riders and generous donations from our family, friends, and community, will play a small but important role in the battle against cancer.
