I'm riding for a future without cancer
This year, I’ll be participating in the 100km trail ride for Ride for Cancer, raising funds in support of cancer research and care for those impacted by cancer here in Nova Scotia.
The Ride for Cancer is particularly personal to me for a few reasons.
My mum, Angela, battled cancer and, after a long and difficult journey, passed away in 2004. During that time, she received care at the QEII here in Halifax, and our family experienced firsthand how important cancer research, treatment, and compassionate care are, not only for the person dealing with this disease, but for everyone who loves and supports them.
But my mum’s story isn’t the only reason this ride carries so much meaning for me.
My dad, Simon, was the founder of the Ride for Cancer. What started as an event to bring people together and raise money for an incredibly important cause has grown into something that has made a huge difference in our community over the years. I’ve watched the ride become a part of our family’s life, and I’ve seen how much work, passion, and heart my dad, along with so many others, has put into making it what it is.
After more than a decade and over $15 million raised, this will be the final Ride for Cancer.
This year, I’m riding for my mum, who I wish could be here to see it, and for my dad, whose idea all those years ago has helped create something that will leave a lasting impact on cancer treatment here in Nova Scotia.
I’ll also be riding for every person and every family in Nova Scotia who has been affected by cancer, and for those who are still in the middle of their own fight. I know that no single ride or donation can change someone’s story. But collectively, the funds raised through events like this help support the research, treatment, and care that can change what that story looks like for someone else.
If you’re able to make a donation, I would be very grateful. Whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page, every bit of support helps.
I’m very proud to be part of the final Ride for Cancer, and I hope I can do justice to what this event has meant to my family and to so many others over the past 12 years.
Thank you for riding with me, supporting me, and helping make this final ride count!
