Thank you for your interest in volunteering!
We have filled all volunteer roles for 2024.
In 2024, BMO Ride for Cancer is back for its 10th anniversary special edition event on September 28, 2024. We’re pulling out all the stops for this unforgettable event day experience and need a committed crew of volunteers to help make the BMO Ride Day magic happen.
As members of our Volunteer Crew, volunteers play an important role in an epic event that helps ensure cancer patients in our region have the best treatment options available at home.
Our Volunteer Crew will join us for an up-close and personal look at Atlantic Canada’s largest fundraising cycling event and one of Canada’s top five cycling events. As part of our Volunteer Crew, we will provide you with an official Volunteer Crew short-sleeve shirt, event-day meals, snacks, and, NEW this year, a 10th anniversary commemorative Volunteer medal.
Volunteer Opportunities & Roles
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 – SET UP
WAYFINDING
As part of our WAYFINDING CREW, you play a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of participants along the trail and road routes. Your responsibilities include strategically placing signs and markers to guide riders, providing clear directions, and ensuring safety throughout the event. This role is critical to the event's success as it helps prevent confusion, keeps participants on the correct path, and contributes to a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Your attention to detail and commitment to clear communication are essential in ensuring our participants and the community's safety.
SET UP
As a SET UP CREW member, you'll have the exciting opportunity to help create pit stops along the trail and road routes and contribute to the setup of the event grounds. Your role involves arranging tables, tents, refreshments, and first aid stations, ensuring that each pit stop is well-stocked and welcoming for participants. This behind-the-scenes experience is incredibly rewarding, as you’ll see the direct impact of your efforts in providing riders with much-needed support and relief throughout the event. Being part of the set-up team allows you to experience the buzz of event preparation and the satisfaction of knowing you’re a key player in the event.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 - EVENT DAY
PIT STOP LIAISON
As part of our PIT STOP CREW, you will be positioned along the road or trail route. Pit stops are designed for riders to stop for a hydration break, grab a snack, have lunch, use the restroom, or request other support. Your primary role will be to help support our riders in these areas as they stop on their way through and cheer them on along the way! It's important to note that these roles are located anywhere from Halifax to Chester. You must be able to provide your own transportation to and from your designated location.
LOGISTICS
Join our LOGISTICS CREW and be at the heart of the action at our Event Grounds in Bayers Lake, where you'll help ensure an unforgettable experience for everyone from start to finish. Your dynamic role could include set-up, parking management, wayfinding support, start/finish line prep and execution, sponsorship activation areas, and photo booth coordination, among others. These exciting tasks are primarily stationed at and around our start/finish line on Hobson Lake Drive in Bayers Lake, where your energy and dedication will make a lasting impact on the event's success.
CHEER & HYPE SQUAD
The CHEER & HYPE SQUAD CREW are crucial in creating an energetic and supportive atmosphere at the start and finish line. They initially welcome participants, boosting their spirits with cheers, chants, and motivational signs. Throughout the event, they continuously encourage riders to feel supported and motivated. At the finish line, the squad celebrates the riders' accomplishments with enthusiastic cheers, applause, and congratulatory messages, making each participant feel like a champion. Their energy and enthusiasm help create a lively and positive environment, enhancing the overall experience for participants, and spectators.
