For Susan in 2026

Susan left us in June this year with the flowers blooming all around, waves rolling on sand, the bees making their bumbling way, new leaves sighing in a sun dappled tree.

She was enthusiastically committed to appreciating the world around her: in ice cold swims, in mentoring and research, in raising her beautiful daughters and grandchildren, in pages and pages of books, at the bottom of a Frenchy’s bin, in a lifted glass, in quiet and boisterous company, and in all the vivid colours found growing on vines, roots, stems, stalks and branches.

Susan lived deeply; big and bright. She was active and social and engaged with living in a way those who loved her, and there are many of us, might hold as a parting gift.

Life is for living, so let’s get to it.
