I’m facing the fight against cancer!

On Saturday, September 28, 2024, I’ll be once again participating in the Ride for Cancer in Nova Scotia.

Between Alberta and Nova Scotia, this will be my 15^th year riding in this event. Although I’ve met a lot of wonderful people, some of whom were cancer survivors, and have reunited with friends, I’ve sadly also lost too many friends and family members to this terrible, relentless disease during that time. Not surprisingly, the most common reply I get from sponsors, is that it has also taken their (your) friends and family; it seems that nobody is untouched by it’s wrath.  

To help combat the alarming cancer stats, proceeds from this year’s ride will go toward development of liquid biopsy technology, which will help determine if a patient’s cancer is cured, or if it has returned, and if so, how best to treat it.  Faster diagnosis saves lives, which is why BMO Ride for Cancer continues on a mission to bring rapid cancer detection and monitoring to patients who have already undergone treatment. With a simple blood test that can take place anywhere, cancer specialists will use this revolutionary technology to uncover whether patients are cancer-free after surgery and the earliest signs if their cancer has returned.

If you decide to support my ride, it will help pave the way for a future of hope for all of us, so that one day maybe we’ll live in a cancer free world, or at least one where cancer is not the number 1 cause of death in Canada. (A sobering statistic is that currently approximately 85,000 lives are taken by cancer in Canada each year).
