Let's bring the power of liquid biopsies to our fight against cancer!
Since 2015, donors to the QEII Foundation's BMO Ride for Cancer have raised over $10 million (net) to support cancer care in Atlantic Canada. Wow!
This year is our 10th anniversary ride. And our keen cyclists (and equally enthusiastic supporters) are rallying behind a uniquely powerful cause in the fight against cancer.Â
We are raising money to bring the power of liquid biopsies to cancer care in our region. Unlike a traditional biopsy that analyzes a surgically removed tissue sample, a liquid biopsy is non-invasive; it looks into a simple blood sample (which can be taken anywhere -- not just at the hospital). DNA and other personalized markers not only flag if any cancer is detected; they also give clues on the best treatment options for that individual. This is personalized cancer care! Â
And in this battle, speed matters. Liquid biopsies are part of a range of tools to detect 'minimum residual disease' (MRD): trace amounts of cancer that, before these innovations, would only be caught much later, after the window for effective treatment has started closing. Â
With liquid biopsies in the arsenal, oncologists and other specialists can provide much improved monitoring of cancer patients, enabling the earliest possible detection of any recurrence. With early detection comes saved lives. Â
The community has helped raise over $10m (net) for the fight against cancer over nine annual BMO Ride for Cancer events hosted by the QEII Foundation. For this one -- our 10th anniversary ride -- let's bring the power of liquid biopsies to our fight against cancer. Â
Thank you for joining the fight!

Way to go Gord. You are such a great community leader. We have already donated to this great cause and event but you have always been so supportive of events we have been part of so we have made a modest donation in support of you!
