I'm on a mission to support those facing cancer
Nova Scotia has the highest cancer rates in Canada. Currently, 1 in 2 are diagnosed in their lifetime and 1 in 3 patients will not survive. That’s why I am riding in the 11th annual BMO Ride for Cancer to help fund life-saving care for all Nova Scotians.
The list of loved ones affected by cancer keeps growing, and so must our commitment to conquering it. This is our time to lead the charge and continue our journey to transform local cancer care — for those we’ve lost, those currently facing cancer, and the 1 in 2 who will be diagnosed.
To help combat these alarming stats, our BMO Ride for Cancer community will equip our QEII experts with the diagnostic tools they need to deliver some of Canada’s most leading-edge cancer care available — ensuring our loved ones have the best possible chance of conquering cancer.
Funds raised by our 2025 BMO Ride for Cancer community will unlock more precise, targeted therapies that have fewer side effects and allow for earlier detection of cancer recurrence for patients being treated at the QEII Cancer Centre; Atlantic Canada’s largest and most specialized cancer treatment hospital.
With every dollar you donate to my Ride, you’re bringing us closer to a future where precision oncology WILL save and change the lives of Nova Scotians.

Why I Ride

For Kimberley Wotherspoon, 2024 Ride Ambassador for the 11th Annual Ride For Cancer, it’s about remembering and doing
This year marks my 7th year participating in the BMO Ride for Cancer as Team Captain for the Halifax Port Authority's Ocean Terminators.
It will always be a particularly special honour but last year I was chosen as one of twelve Ride Ambassadors for the 10th Anniversary Ride for Cancer. My Ride Story was shared in the lead up to the event and I was involved in some of the media campaigns to promote the ride. The ride takes place Saturday September 27th, starting at Bayers Lake, riding out towards the South Shore, either on the BLT/St Margaret’s Bay Trail or the road depending which type/route you are doing.
In 2019, the QEII Foundation did a presentation on the Ride for Cancer at HPA. It inspired me to start riding that year in memory of my late partner who passed away in 2012 from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at the young age of 36. The 2019 ride took place on what would have been his birthday, so it seemed like a fitting way to honour his memory. It had been ages since I rode my bike (especially 25 km!) but I trained that summer and successfully completed the race. Since then, I've increased my distance to 50 km, and I continue to ride in his honour and for other family members and friends who 've been touched by cancer.
