Every Kilometer Counts

I am proud to be riding with McInnes Cooper’s Wheels of Hope in support of the BMO Ride for Cancer.

This cause is deeply personal to me. I am riding in honour of my mother, a lung cancer survivor, and in memory of my aunts: Joanne (ovarian cancer), Neila (liver cancer), and Shirley, who faced multiple cancers. Like so many in Atlantic Canada, my family has experienced both the strength and the loss that comes with cancer.

My ride is also in support of advancing women’s health and improving access to care, an area I am passionate about both personally and through my broader community involvement.

As an avid cyclist, I am approaching my fundraising in a way that reflects that passion. Between now and October 3, I will be tracking every kilometre I ride using my Samsung watch and the Samsung Health app, and inviting sponsors to support me through a per‑kilometre pledge.

Cancer affects too many of us. Through this ride, I am committed to supporting better care, better outcomes, and continued progress in research.

Thank you for supporting our team and this important cause.

Training Through the Unexpected – Why I’m Riding On

Training for the BMO Ride for Cancer hasn’t exactly gone as planned—but in many ways, that’s been the most meaningful part of the journey so far.

On what was supposed to be a straightforward 20 km training ride, I ended up replacing two tires in a single day. When I couldn’t get back on the road, I walked the final 5 km, towing my bike alongside me.

It was frustrating. It was tiring. And it definitely tested my patience.

But it also reinforced something important: perseverance matters. Progress isn’t always smooth, and sometimes the hardest days are the ones that remind you why you started.

I’m continuing to train hard, stay consistent, and push myself—not just for the ride itself, but in hopes of exceeding my fundraising goal. Every bit of support fuels that effort.

If I reach $1,000 raised, I’ll be increasing my distance from the 25 km route to the 50 km route as an added commitment to the cause.

I’m grateful for the support I’ve received so far, including contributions from McInnes Cooper and CDMS Atlantic. Each donation is helping make a meaningful impact in cancer care at the QEII and keeps me moving forward—no matter what challenges come my way.
