In Memory of Michael Barkhouse

It is with profound sadness and a great sense of loss that we announce the passing of Michael Alan Barkhouse, much loved Husband, Father, Son. Brother, and friend to many. Born in Halifax. He was the Son of Alan L. Barkhouse and the late Dolores J. Barkhouse. Michael is survived by his wife Audrey (Desmond) Barkhouse, daughter Alyssa Marie, sister Alanna Joy Barkhouse, (John Newbery), and Nephew, Jack and Niece, Skye, and Best Friend Scott MacIntyre.

Michael received his early education in the Halifax school system. After graduation from Queen Elizabeth High School he attended Acadia University (1984-1988), graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Accounting and Business Management. He had amazing memories from his time at Acadia, Barrax Residents, living off campus, winning the lip syncing competition, and many happy experiences making numerous life long friends.
Michael joined the Canada Revenue Agency where he had a successful career until Multiple Sclerosis forced early retirement at age 47 as Audit Team Leader. His friends at CRA continued to be a source of loving friendship and support.

Before MS, Michael played many sports, including hockey, skiing, golf and every racket sport you could think of. He won many awards at the Waegwoltic club for his expert skills in tennis. He was a master card, and game player. He had legendary skills in poker, backgammon, crib and many card games. Michael was the life of the party. He was known for his confident, fun-loving personality that shined in any room he was in. He loved to have a good time with family and friends, always having a positive outlook in the face of adversity.

Multiple Sclerosis didn't stop Michael from having a happy life ,this included many Family trips to Florida, family gatherings, Roxbury get-togethers, and game nights with friends. Michael was loving, kind, and truly cared for his Family. He was our rock, and leaves a void that cannot be filled, he will truly be missed.

Audrey, Alyssa and Alan would like to thank the many friends who were there for Michael, especially Scott MacIntyre, Jeff Klassen and Andy Halpin. Your kindness, love and support are truly appreciated.

Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Tuesday April 1st, 2025 from 6-8pm. A celebration of Life at the same location on Wednesday, April 2nd at 2:30. Online condolence can be made, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made here.

It has been a very long time since I have seen Michael but I will always remember his kindness and smirky smile. We won many badminton tournaments together and at the end of every game he would hit me with his badminton racquet and say good job, even if we lost. My sympathy to you all for your deep loss. Pedal hard because Michael would want you to be the first ones over the finish line : )
