One Last Ride

Hey Friends,

I feel compelled to send one last blast into the universe seeking donations to this year’s Ride for Cancer, as this is the final year of the event.

The Ride has raised significant funds in its 12 years to deliver some of the latest and best cancer treatment and diagnostic equipment to the QEII Life Sciences Centre in Halifax, which serves patients throughout Atlantic Canada. Government healthcare funding does not provide for these programs and equipment, and we would not have access to without this event. It’s the cutting edge and the experimental, the result of all the research & development funds raised by other organizations.

In this final year there are three significant investments the funds raised will be used to procure:

1.        Minimal Residual Disease Technology – advanced genomic testing to detect microscopic traces of cancer in the blood long before a scan from current technology can detect it.

2.       Breast Cancer Patient Empowerment Program – clinical trial to enhance in-home care between treatment appointments for breast cancer patients.

3.       Relocatable / Mobile MRI Unit (a first!) – this unit will travel around Nova Scotia making cancer screening MRI’s more accessible to people outside Halifax. This means not having to travel for screening, and the increased capacity will shorten wait times for everyone.
