I'm riding again in 2025 because I can, because it’s fun, because it involves a wonderful group of people, and because the cause is too important to pass up.
Nova Scotia has the highest cancer rates in Canada. Currently, 1 in 2 are diagnosed in their lifetimes and 1 in 3 of those will not survive. Some will die quickly from forms of cancer for which no treatments are available. Some will fight like dogs, availing themselves of every form of treatment available. But they will die anyway. It’s all so sad. And it’s time for a cure, or at least more cures. That’s why I am riding in the 11th annual BMO Ride for Cancer to help fund life-saving care for all Nova Scotians.
The list of those close to me beset by and affected by cancer keeps on growing. And it is thus that my personal commitment must be maintained.
I am no longer actively soliciting financial support. Those who have supported me in years past have been so kind, and so generous. They have done enough. But still, I want people to know that I am riding again; so that they can provide what support they will.
Our BMO Ride for Cancer community will equip our QEII experts with the diagnostic tools they need to deliver some of Canada’s most leading-edge cancer care available.
Funds raised by the 2025 BMO Ride for Cancer community will unlock more precise, and targeted cancer-figthing therapies, which have fewer side effects and which allow for earlier detection of cancer for patients being assessed and treated at the QEII Cancer Centre; Atlantic Canada’s largest and most specialized cancer treatment hospital.
With every dollar donated to my Ride will bring us closer to a future in which precision oncology will save and change more lives of Nova Scotians, and others in Atlantic Canada.
