I'm riding again in 2025 because I can, because it’s fun, because it involves a wonderful group of people, and most of all because it supports a cause which is too important to pass up, and which needs all the help it can get. I am also it with respect t
Nova Scotia has the highest cancer rates in Canada. Currently, 1 in 2 are diagnosed in their lifetimes and 1 in 3 of those will not survive. Some will die quickly from forms of cancer for which no or only limited treatments are available. Some will fight like dogs, availing themselves of every form of treatment available. But they will die anyway. Oftentimes with later lives which have been marked by pain and disability. No cancer treatments are fun.
It’s all so sad. And it’s time for a cure, or at least more cures. That’s why I am again riding in this, the 11th annual BMO sponsored Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre Foundation's Ride for Cancer: to help fund life-saving care for all Nova Scotians facing cancer diagnoses. And there are new ones each day. Every day.
The list of those close to me beset by and affected by cancer keeps on growing. And it is thus that I must maintain my personal commitment to the Ride and to the cause.
I am no longer actively soliciting financial support. Those who have supported me in years past have been so kind, and so generous. They have done enough. But still, I want people to know that I am riding again; so that they can provide what support they will. If they will.
Our BMO sponsored Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre Foundation's Ride for Cancer community will equip our QEII Health Sciences Centre cancer experts with the diagnostic tools they need to deliver some of Canada’s most bleeding-edge cancer care available.
Funds raised by the 2025 BMO Ride for Cancer community will unlock more precise, and targeted cancer-fighting therapies, which have fewer side effects and which allow for earlier detection of cancer for patients being assessed and treated at the QEII Cancer Centre; Atlantic Canada’s largest and most specialized cancer treatment hospital.
Every dollar donated to my Ride will bring us closer to a future in which precision oncology will save and change more lives of Nova Scotians, and others in Atlantic Canada.
