Turning thousands of kilometers into millions of dollars
One of the registration questions for this event asked who I am riding in honour or memory of.
It took all my fingers and all my toes to count the people in just the past few years in my life who’ve faced cancer diagnoses. I’m riding for all of them.
And that doesn’t account for the future. We know that here at home, 1 in 2 people are diagnosed in their lifetime. I hope it’s not me, I hope it’s not you, but odds are, it’ll be one of us. So, I’m riding for future us, too.
The kilometers I’ll ride can’t in and of themselves transform cancer care but I, and every other participant, have commit to raising a minimum of $1,000 by reaching out to our networks (and in varying degrees of creativity), asking them to join us in this mission by making a donation. Each of us riding then performing the symbolic celebration of that collective impact.
That is how you convert thousands of kilometers into millions of dollars. Real currency that buys truly life changing care.
Funds raised by our 2026 BMO Ride for Cancer community will support the full spectrum of cancer care at the QEII — strengthening every stage of the journey: earlier diagnosis, more targeted treatment, effective support between appointments, and monitoring that can detect cancer recurrence sooner.
This means advancing cancer-fighting technology and treatment options.
Together, our BMO Ride for Cancer community is helping ensure that every patient who relies on Atlantic Canada’s largest and most specialized cancer treatment hospital has access to world-class care, right here at home.
