I’m facing the fight against cancer!

What if we could destroy cancer using a patient’s own immune system? What if we could cure at least half of all eligible blood cancer patients? Yes, I said cure.  When you support my ride today, we’re one step closer to making these bold aspirations a reality.

On Saturday, September 23, 2023, I’m riding alongside a community with one common goal: to transform local cancer care at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.

This year, we’re going to be bolder than ever before…our BMO Ride for Cancer community is all in! With your support, we’ll establish Atlantic Canada’s first-ever CAR-T therapy lab, a state-of-the-art space dedicated to genetically modifying a patient’s own immune cells (T-cells) to fight their cancer with unparalleled personalization and accuracy.

This revolutionary and lifesaving immunotherapy is a final lifeline and potential cure for certain blood cancer patients who’ve tried all other treatment options.

Benefits include faster treatment times, minimizing disruption to families’ lives, more clinical trials, and, most importantly, offering a potentially lifesaving treatment option to certain blood cancer patients who otherwise would not survive.

By supporting my ride, you are joining a community of champions funding the fight against cancer today and for future generations.

If you could save someone’s life, why wouldn’t you?

My Updates

2023 ride blog

Friends,
I have 4 “Ride for Cancer” jerseys in my closet, I’m planning my fifth ride in September. Understanding what and who these jerseys represent I am quite proud to wear these on the various trails Valerie and I use to train for our rides.
Devastatingly cancer is yet again affecting our family, Valerie was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer and will begin her treatments very soon. We are cautiously optimistic her treatment will end in a cure, but her fight will take many months, include surgery and multiple rounds of chemo.
With this news this year’s ride takes on a very special purpose. Valerie and I had registered to ride 50km together in September, we will continue to train together towards this goal and modify as required.
In 2023, our BMO Ride community will be the catalyst for establishing Atlantic Canada’s first-ever CAR-T therapy lab at the QEII Health Sciences Centre; a state-of-the-art space dedicated to genetically modifying a patient’s own immune cells (T-cells) to fight their cancer with unparalleled personalization and accuracy.
CAR-T therapy is a ‘living drug’ that harnesses a patient’s own immune system to detect and destroy the cancer within their body for the rest of their lives; with at least half of all eligible patients being cured.
This revolutionary and lifesaving immunotherapy is a final lifeline and potential cure for certain blood cancer patients who’ve tried all other treatment options.

Inflation, fires, and floods have made it a tough year for residents of HRM and not everyone is in position to assist with our rides. Friends, I am asking you to look at your personal situation, if possible, please consider contributing to our rides, the cause is worthy of your support.

All the best.

Rob
