Honoring the memory of Cara and all who have been affected by this disease

I am again participating in the BMO Ride for Cancer, to honor the memory of my friend Cara.
On June 7, 2023, I lost my friend Cara to cancer. Cara was a bright light, full of love, energy, and incredible courage. She faced every step of her illness with strength, dignity, and an unshakable spirit. Losing her has left a hole in my heart, and in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Cara’s battle with cancer was marked by resilience and unwavering determination. Even in the face of hardship, she held onto hope and inspired those around her to embrace life with gratitude and boldness. It’s in her memory that I take on this challenge—transforming my grief into purpose through something that brings hope to others.
The BMO Ride for Cancer meant a great deal to Cara, which makes it deeply meaningful to me. This ride is more than just a fundraiser—it's a tribute to Cara’s life and legacy, and a stand against a disease that touches far too many lives.
This ride was important to her, and now it’s personal to me. I ride for Cara. I ride for the countless others who are bravely facing cancer today, and in remembrance of those we’ve lost. I ride to support research, treatment, and care—so that one day, fewer people will have to suffer from this relentless illness.
Together, we ride with hope. Together, we can make a difference.
Nova Scotia has the highest cancer rates in all of Canada. Currently, 1 in 2 will be diagnosed in their lifetime and 1 in 3 patients will not survive.
To help combat these alarming stats, our BMO Ride for Cancer community will equip our QEII experts with the precision oncology tools they need to deliver some of Canada’s most leading-edge cancer care available — ensuring our loved ones have the best possible chance of conquering cancer.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, I’m riding alongside a
community with one common goal: transforming local cancer care at the QEII
Health Sciences Centre.
These bold aspirations will not become a reality without the support of
generous donors. By supporting my Ride today, you are joining a
community dedicated to moving the needle in cancer care for all Nova Scotians.
Your support WILL save lives.
Are you ready to make a difference — honouring those we’ve lost, those currently facing cancer and those yet to be diagnosed?

Thinking of you, Shelley. It was so nice to be able to connect with you and Cara while I was at D2L. Good luck with the bike ride.
