This Ride is Personal

For the past seven years, I've travelled home to Nova Scotia to take part in the BMO Ride for Cancer. I ride in support of our namesake team captain, Mike Parsons, who formed our scrappy little team shortly after being diagnosed with a rare blood cancer in 2017.

Mike's diagnosis came much earlier than usual, thanks to new diagnostic equipment funded by proceeds from the very first cancer ride held in the region. He’s living proof that the money raised makes a meaningful difference for patients facing this disease.

I’ve known Mike for over 30 years—we met in our first year of university. I’ve watched him live a healthy, active, and deeply engaged life. He keeps himself in great shape and is surrounded by loving friends and family. He’s a textbook example of how random and unfair cancer can be.
